About Me
WRITER, DESIGNER, VIDEOGRAPHER
I have been a storyteller my whole life. From making up stories about imaginary friends, to writing novels, to sketch comedy, to documentaries about space, I thrive on communication of all forms.
I am a writer, videographer, designer, and social media coordinator with a love for variety and people. I would love to use my storytelling abilities to make people's lives easier and the world a better place.
Outside of my professional self, I direct Thistle & Shamrock Dance Academy in Richmond, maintain my own dance career, read, write, paint, and spend all the time I can outdoors. I am a dedicated fanatic of Space Race history, Percy Jackson, falling into Wikipedia rabbit holes, Pluto (which IS a planet), and making a spreadsheet at any opportunity.
Writing
Video Production
As part of my work with the Calhoun Honors Discovery Program at Virginia Tech, I produced a mini documentary titled Hypnos: The Savior of Sleep, which tells the story of my team, Hypnos, and the product we developed as the solution to sleep on long-term space missions. You can watch it below.
I have also written, directed, filmed and edited numerous filmed sketches for SPAP Sketch Comedy at Virginia Tech. Below is a selection of my best work for SPAP.
Podcasts
During my contract position as a Technical Studio & Operations Manager with Signal House Studios, I had the opportunity to help produce several podcast episodes, some video and some audio only. My role involved managing audio levels and facilitating live camera changes with an ATEM Mini Extreme ISO switcher.
Branding
I have experience in branding design through my dance studio, Thistle & Shamrock Dance Academy, and through my freelance client, HilterKilter Creative Costumery. For Thistle & Shamrock, I redesigned the studio logo twice: One version for social media and another for studio jackets and other merch. For HilterKilter, I created my client's brand from the ground up, including helping name the company and designing a logo package, color scheme, website and promotional materials. I also created and set up the HilterKilter Instagram account.
Layout and Design
I have some experience in layout using Adobe InDesign, specifically for performance programs. I took the program of SPAP Sketch Comedy's semesterly performance from a Google Doc that barely fit on one page to neatly fitting everything on one piece of paper. Two of those are downloadable here.
I have also created dance class schedules, show posters and YouTube thumbnails in Canva, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, some of which are in the gallery below.
Web Writing and Design
I have created several websites using Wix, including this one, my dance studio's website, a site for my CHDP team Hypnos and the website for my freelance design client HilterKilter. Those are linked below.
I also headed the redesign of the Airplane Systems University website for Airplane Systems Engineering at Boeing in Everett, Washington. I cannot link to the site, but my redesign proposal PowerPoint is downloadable below.
Presentations
Through the Calhoun Honors Discovery Program (CHDP) I have four years of experience giving presentations to managers and industry partners, both in a typical slideshow format and in a more conversational format, like at a trade show booth. I had the opportunity to test drive these skills at my Boeing internship and received positive feedback on both of my report out slideshows, which you can find below. Both of these I designed and delivered, the podcast one with the help of a teammate.
Style Guides
I have had the opportunity to create several style guides and brand identity guideline documents. These include Airplane Systems University (APSU), for Boeing; HilterKilter; and a reorganization of the existing branding guide for SPAP Sketch Comedy. I do not have access to the APSU document, but the other two are below.
Photography
I had the opportunity to practice DSLR photography in various reporting classes.
Performance
I have some experience in broadcast performance as well as acting for film, examples of both shown below. I also have 3 years of experience with stage acting through SPAP Sketch Comedy at Virginia Tech and some additional acting experience from when I was little.
